This Sunday, local author Laetitia Mizero Hellerud will be at Fargo Public Library for a reading and discussion of her memoir, Being at Home in the World: Cross-Cultural Leadership Lessons to Guide Your Journey. This event will be free and open to the public.

The memoir chronicles Hellerud’s journey as a refugee, and how she learned to survive and adapt along the way. The journey began with her fleeing her home country of Burundi as a child, and ended with her arrival at Fargo’s Hector International Airport in 1998.

Hellerud is now the founder and owner of Ubuntu Consulting, and has given speeches at colleges, corporations, conferences, and non-profit organizations.

Back in August, Hellerud gave a reading and book signing at Ecce Art Gallery. Then in September, she was at Red River Coffee Co., answering questions and discussing the book with anyone who wished to learn more.

During her appearance at Ecce, Hellerud told her audience, “In this book I invite the reader and provide you with the tools for your own self-introspection, so that we can finally start focusing on all the values that we share as human beings, instead of mindlessly dwelling on perceived differences between people… My goal in writing this book is that it will be used as an agent of positive change.”
