Last month, Fargo’s Barnes and Noble hosted award-winning children’s author Roxane B. Salonen in a reading of her new book, The Twelve Days of Christmas in North Dakota. This month, in a family-friendly event co-sponsored by the Valley Reading Council, Salonen will return for another reading, complete with seasonal treats and copies available for purchase. This will be free and open to the public.
The Twelve Days of Christmas in North Dakota written as part of the Twelve Days of Christmas in America series. It centers on a girl named Piper who spends Christmas with her cousin in North Dakota, and over the course of twelve days receives a unique set of gifts. These include twelve skates a-sliding, nine bison basking, and a meadowlark in an elm tree.
The book was illustrated by Jess Golden, a Massachusetts resident and graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. Other books she’s illustrated include My Little Golden Book About Dogs, Soccer with Mom, Sam Visits the School Library, and the Lana’s World series.
Salonen, a Fargo native, has also worked as a public speaker and a radio host. She is also the author of P is for Peace Garden: A North Dakota Alphabet, which is part of a series called Discover America State By State, and First Salmon, the story of a Native American boy who takes part in a sacred ceremony.
