This Sunday, Fargo’s Barnes and Noble will host award-winning children’s author Roxane B. Salonen as she reads from her latest book, The Twelve Days of Christmas in North Dakota.

The book is about a girl named Piper who travels to North Dakota to visit her cousin Henry for the holidays. While she takes part in traditional Midwest pastimes like ice fishing and attending a Native American powwow, Henry provides her with gifts over the course of twelve days. These include everything from twelve skates a-sliding to a meadowlark in an elm tree.

A Fargo native, Salonen has also worked as a public speaker and a Catholic radio host. Her other books include P is for Peace Garden: A North Dakota Alphabet, A Catholic Mom’s Prayer Companion, and First Salmon.

Twelve Days was illustrated by Jess Golden, a Massachusetts resident and graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
