Moorhead Public Library Hosts Reading And Writing Workshop With Local Author

This Saturday, the 15th, Moorhead Public Library will be hosting a reading and writing workshop with local author Heather A. Slomski. In addition to reading from her novel-in-progress, The Starlight Ballroom, Slomski will conduct a short Q&A session, followed by writing prompts for the aspiring writers in the audience.

As The Starlight Ballroom is a fictionalized account of the lives of Slomski’s grandparents in Krakow, the writing prompts will provide opportunity for attendants to flex their imaginations regarding their own family histories.

Slomski’s work has been published in the journals TriQuarterly; American Letters & Commentary; Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art; and Poet Lore. From 2008 to 2010, she held the Axton Fellowship in Fiction at the University of Louisville, and in 2013 she received a Minnesota State Artist Initiative Grant.

Her awards include the 2014 Iowa Short Fiction Award. This fall the University of Iowa Press will publish her collection of short stories, The Lovers Set Down their Spoons.
